- For the opening, the federation chartered a steamship to bring mountaineers from all over Greece to Karystos.
History
The first mountain refuge on Evia. The idea came from the 1945 will of Karystos benefactor Nikolaos Giokalas, which asked for a refuge to be built on Ochi. It was inaugurated on 21 October 1962 and run by the Giokaleio Foundation. Over the years it was abandoned and used as an animal pen, until in October 1992 the teacher Sakis Biniaris began restoring it as a volunteer.
